Ruzich and Rodenbaugh lead Bulldogs at Bloomington Gold Invitational

Senior Shaelin Ruzich and sophomore Grace Rodebaugh were the top individual placers for the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ track and field team on Wednesday (May 12) at the Bloomington Gold Invitational.

Ruzich was the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 48.65 seconds.

Rodebaugh took second in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches.

Ruzich was one of three squad members with top-eight performances in two individual events. She placed third in the pole vault, topping 10 feet, 6 inches.

In the weight events, seniors Gwen Tee and Hailee McCall-Ochs excelled. Tee was third in the discus (94 feet, 1 inch) and eighth in the shot put (28-4). McCall-Ochs took fourth in the shot put (31-9) and was fifth in the discus (80-5).

All four relays entered by M-S in the nine-school event secured top-five finishes.

The 400-meter foursome of Ruzich, Ariana Lingard, Lauren Burr and Mallory Carr placed third in 52.50 seconds.

The 800-meter group of Carr, Lingard, Burr and Chloe Merkle ended fourth in 1:57.60.

Also capturing fourth was the 3,200-meter unit of Ava Boyd, Callie Jansen, Emily Bednar and Lauren Bednar. Their composite time was 11:09.00.

The Bulldogs’ 1,600-meter relay was fifth in 4:38.25. The runners were Carr, Elizabeth Sims, Chloe Allen and Burr.

Sims, a junior, turned in a third-place finish in the 3,200 meters. Her time was 12:36.50.

Other M-S athletes among the top 10 were: Burr (fifth in the long jump, 14-3 ½ ); Boyd (fifth in the 800 meters, 2:42.80); Jansen (sixth in the 800 meters, 2:43.00); Allen (fifth in the 400 meters, 1:07.60); Lingard (fifth in the 100 meters, 13.26); Emily Bednar (eighth in the 1,600 meters, 6:07.97) and Hannah Hofbauer (10th in the 200 meters, 31.79).

Normal Community emerged as the team champion with 134 points, just ahead of runner-up Bloomington (128 points). They were followed by Normal West (91 points), M-S (65 points) and Springfield Sacred-Heart Griffin (52 points).

M-S will return to action on Saturday (May 15) at a triangular meet at Champaign Central.
