Reis Claybrooke Rallies with Fourth-Best Second Round to Secure Top-20 Finish at IHSA Class 2A State Golf Tournament

Mahomet-Seymour senior Reis Claybrooke rebounded from an 82 in first-round action at the IHSA boys’ Class 2A golf state tournament with the fourth-best score on the second day to claim a top-20 finish.

Claybrooke had 18-hole rounds of 82 and 70 at the Weibring Golf Club, in Normal. He finished with a 152 and tied for 16th.

It was the second consecutive year that Claybrooke tied for 16th at state.

His second-day score was one-under-par and marked the sixth time this season he had gone under par.

After the first round, Claybrooke was tied for 60th.

There were a total of 113 players in the Class 2A portion of the tournament.

For the season, Claybrooke had the team’s best score 11 times.

Three other teammates took turns posting the team’s best score. Jacob Schoudel led the Bulldogs four times, Kelton Hennesy led twice and Carter Henrikson was the leader one time.

A regional champion, Claybrooke had a team-best 37.3 nine-hole average. He finished his prep career with the second-best (37.3 as a senior) and third-best (37.4 as a junior) nine-hole stroke averages at M-S in the past three decades.

Three other Bulldogs ended with stroke averages under 40.

Apollo Conference champion Hennesy was second (38.5), followed by Schoudel (39.6), and Cole Thrasher (39.7). Jackson Bohm (40.6) and Henrikson (41.1) were the varsity’s other leaders.

Schoudel and Henrikson shared medalist honors at the Champaign County Invitational. Thrasher had a low round of 77 and Bohm had a low round of 78.
