Raver and Oelze set M-S school records at Urbana Invite

Members of the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ swimming team not only did their best on Saturday at the Urbana Invitational, two individuals also did better than anybody has done in school history.
Diver Carly Raver broke the M-S school record for 11 dives, accumulating 269.45 points. Overall, Raver finished fifth. Teammate Eden Oelze placed third in the 100-yard butterfly with a school-record time of 1 minute, 5.37 seconds.
In the team race, M-S was just one point behind Danville in the eight-school event.
M-S amassed 240 points and placed fifth. Danville had 241 points.
Meet champion Chicago Laboratory accumulated 614 points.
Oelze was one of two M-S athletes to secure top three placements.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Olivia McMurry was third in 1:06.32. McMurry also placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (26.66).
Oelze added a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:32.20).
Five other Bulldogs achieved top-12 finishes in individual events.
Payton Turk was sixth in diving (151.10 points) Miranda Marcelli was 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:29.56), Olivia Ross was 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:28.63), Kate Raver was 12th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:33.05) and Natalie Heaton was 12th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:19.87).
All three M-S relays established new bests for the season.
The 400-yard freestyle relay of Oelze, Grace Larson, Kate Raver and McMurry ended fifth in 4:24.25.
The 200-yard medley relay unit of McMurry, Ross, Oelze and Marcelli took sixth in 2:08.71.
The 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of Ross, Turk, Carly Raver and Kate Raver placed 10th in 2:04.88.
M-S returns to action on Wednesday in a 4:30 p.m. meet at Urbana.
