Quincy Notre Dame ends Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball season

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team couldn’t hold onto an early lead against state-ranked Quincy Notre Dame and dropped a 63-46 decision in a Class 3A IHSA sectional semifinal game at Decatur MacArthur on Tuesday (Feb. 20).
The Bulldogs vaulted into a 13-10 lead after one quarter, allowing third-ranked QND just three first-quarter baskets. At halftime, the Bulldogs trailed, 26-20.
Reese Gallier and Sidney Young each tallied 11 points for M-S. Kylie Waldinger chipped in with 10 points.
The team’s other point-makers were Selah Campion (five points, all on free throws), Adaline Eisenmann (four points), Grace Binkley (two points), Addie Lagacy (two points) and Hannah Martin (one point).
M-S connected on 17 of 23 free throws. Young hit the Bulldogs’ lone three-pointer.
The Bulldogs finish the season with a 14-20 record. QND takes a 29-4 mark into the sectional finals against Chatham Glenwood.
Gallier (11.5 scoring average) and Waldinger (11.0 scoring average) were the top M-S scorers for the season.
Gallier led the team with 72 three-pointers. Waldinger hit 22 three-pointers. Campion and Young both had 12 three-pointers.
Other Bulldogs on the sectional roster who made three-pointers during the season were Hannah Creel, Eisenmann, Courtney Fonte, Lagacy and Martin.
The team’s most accurate free throw shooters were Young (79.1 percent), Gallier (74.2 percent) and Campion (62.7 percent). Waldinger was most adept at getting to the free throw line, garnering 143 attempts.
Gallier led the team in scoring – or shared the team-lead – in 17 games. She was followed by Waldinger, the leader in 12 games, and Young, who led in five games.
The top individual scoring performances were by Gallier (29 points against Normal West) and Waldinger (24 points against Bloomington Central Catholic).
Young had a high game of 16 points. Campion and Eisenmann each had 13-point performances.
