Pritzker cancels private and public K-12 schools from March 17 to March 30
Gov. J.B. Pritzker closed all public and private K-12 schools from March 17 to March 30 late Friday afternoon.
“This is the right thing to do to protect our students, our staff and our teachers,” Pritzker said. “No school district will see their state funding cut as a result of this public health crisis.”
Pritzker said that the state Board of Education will continue to be fully staffed and a commission of superintendents will be meeting to provide leadership during this time.
Public health officials have announced 14 new cases of COVID-14, all from Cook County, with the exception of one from Lake County.
There have been no cases confirmed in Champaign or Vermilion County.
According to the CDC there are 1,629 cases with 41 deaths in the United States as of March 13.
