Porter promoted to Captain of USMC
John Porter was promoted to the rank of Captain in the USMC on July 10, 2017 at the Headquarters of the Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST) Bravo Company, Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Virginia. The Captains bars were pinned to his lapels by his parents and grandmother after Porter was sworn in by Major George Fenton.
Captain Porter was commissioned in 2012 and has deployed 3 times since completing entry level training in 2013. While stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and a part of 3rd Battalion 8th Marines, Captain Porter deployed twice to Europe and Africa as a rifle platoon commander. He recently returned home from his third deployment, and first with FAST, in the Pacific where he and his platoon supported contingency operations for the US Naval 7th Fleet.
John Porter is a 2007 Mahomet Seymour graduate is the son of Jeff and Shelley Porter of rural Seymour and he currently resides in Williamsburg Virginia.
