Parkland College Announces Tuition Freeze for 2024-2025
In a move that signals a strong commitment to education affordability and accessibility, Parkland College has announced that it will keep its tuition rates steady for the academic year 2024-2025. During their recent meeting, the college’s trustees voted unanimously to maintain the current tuition and fees, ensuring that students face no increase in the cost of their education next year.
For the upcoming fiscal year, the base tuition rate at Parkland College will remain at $154.75 per credit hour for in-district students, applicable to both campus-based and online Tier 1 instruction. Similarly, the Tier 2 tuition rate, which applies to Health Professions programs, will continue at $234 per credit hour. Additionally, universal fees will stay fixed at $23.75, further easing financial burdens on students.
The decision came after a thorough Budget Workshop led by Chief Financial Officer Christopher Randles, who presented an in-depth analysis of the college’s finances and projections. The trustees’ decision to keep tuition and fees unchanged reflects their commitment to making higher education more accessible and affordable, particularly in a time when many students and families are facing financial challenges.
Besides the tuition freeze, the trustees approved the 2024-2025 Course Fee Schedule, which includes adjustments to individual program course fees, with some seeing reductions and others increases. This nuanced approach allows Parkland College to maintain high-quality education offerings while also managing its resources effectively.
In other significant actions, the trustees approved the purchase of ALEKS PPL assessment testing units from McGraw-Hill Global Education Holdings LLC for $60,000. They also moved forward with the filing of grant applications to the Illinois Community College Board for projects including a CTE Virtual Reality Grant and an Access and Equity in Dual Credit Project Grant, with requested funds totaling nearly $250,000.
Moreover, Parkland College has accepted over $380,000 in grants from the Illinois Community College Board for initiatives such as the FY24 Rev Up EV Community College Initiative, which focuses on Electric Vehicle Technology, and Digital Instruction for Adult Learners. These funds will support innovative projects and technological advancements at the college.
