Paige Jansen wins 7th grade race at Cowchip Classic

Paige Jansen was the individual winner on Friday (Sept. 1) in the girls’ seventh-grade race at the Chrisman Junior High Cowchip Classic.
Jansen ran the 2-mile course in 13 minutes, 23.6 seconds. She had a 23.8-second margin of victory.
Four teammates finished among the top 20 in a race with 70 competitors.
Ava Cvengros took fourth in 13:58.2. She was followed by Phoebe Graham (eighth in 14:15.4), Yuna Kim (12th in 14:57.3) and Emma Dewitt (17th in 15:23.3).
In the girls’ eighth-grade race, three M-S runners captured top-10 finishes in a field with 63 participants.
Cecily Smith was sixth (13:52.5) Coming in on her heels were Finley Smith (seventh in 13:54.2) and Kennedy Ashby (eighth also in 13:54.2). Teammate Ruby Anderson was 31st in 16:47.4.
In the girls’ sixth-grade race, M-S’ Ashley Martin came in fourth in a race with 75 runners. She was timed in 14:25.7 and led teammate Chandler Mills to the finish line.
Mills was fifth in 14:29.3.
Other Bulldogs among the top 30 were Brooke Patrick (eighth in 15:10.0), Brooke Alderks (18th in 16:23.6) and Jilyan Clark (29th in 17:09.3).
In the girls’ open race, Bulldog Rilynn Nelson was the winner (15:15). Teammate Brinley Hillard was the runner-up. Jane Hartman took sixth.
There were no team scores charted.
M-S returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 9) in the Normal Parkside Invitational.
