Oelze breaks school record

Mahomet-Seymour junior Eden Oelze broke the school record in the 500-yard freestyle on Saturday (Oct. 23) in a three-school girls’ swimming meet between Apollo Conference schools at Lincoln College.
Oelze’s winning time was 5 minutes, 59.80 seconds.
She was also triumphant in the100-yard butterfly.
Oelze was also a member of two victorious relays.
She joined Olivia McMurry, Anna Lagacy and Kate Raver in the 200-yard medley. The 200-yard freestyle foursome of Raver, Taylor Easter, Oelze and McMurry captured top honors in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Like Oelze, McMurry won two individual events. She out-touched everyone in the 200-yard individual medley and in the 100-yard backstroke.
M-S amassed 114 points to outdistance Charleston (102) and Lincoln (68) in the triangular meet.
Easter was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle. Raver won the 50-yard freestyle.
Securing runner-up finishes for M-S were Kiera McCoy (200-yard freestyle) and Lagacy (100-yard breaststroke).
Kaitlyn Stewart finished third in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Bulldogs’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of McCoy, Easter, Raver and Lagacy also earned a second-place finish.
M-S (10-8) returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 30) at Eastern Illinois University against Charleston and Lincoln. That will be the Bulldogs’ final tune-up before the Urbana Sectional, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6
