Normal West ends Mahomet-Seymour win streak

Mahomet-Seymour went scoreless in the first quarter of Thursday’s home game against Normal West and dropped a 63-40 non-conference girls’ basketball decision to the Wildcats.
Normal West carried a 35-11 lead into halftime.
Two freshmen led the Bulldogs in scoring. Savannah Orgeron tallied 12 points on the basis of hitting four three-point shots.
Durbin Thomas collected 10 points to go with four assists and four rebounds.
For the fifth game in a row, the top M-S rebounder was Nichole Taylor. The sophomore grabbed six rebounds.
On Saturday, in a game where 31 of their 47 field goal attempts were three-pointers (with five made), the Bulldogs lost at home to Lincoln, 42-36.
When the schools played in Lincoln, M-S was victorious.
In the rematch, the Railsplitters jumped into a 9-2 lead after one quarter and held a 22-14 edge at halftime.
Cayla Koerner scored a team-high 14 points for the Bulldogs. Taylor scored seven points and Ashley Wheeler ended with six points.
Makayla Rosenbery grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Taylor had six boards and Orgeron had five. Koerner ended with two assists and two steals.
Also contributing two assists were Thomas and Ashley Campbell.
M-S (15-11) returns to action tonight at home against Urbana, attempting to end a two-game losing streak.
