Normal Community tops Mahomet-Seymour baseball

Blake Wolters swatted two hits, Alex McHale scored two runs and Carter Selk drove in two runs on Monday (May 15), but the Mahomet-Seymour baseball team dropped a 9-3 non-conference decision at Normal Community.
McHale had one hit as did teammates Tyson Finch, Selk and Cade Starrick. Wolters scored one run and Carter Johnson knocked in one run.
Mateo Casillas pitched the first three innings and suffered the loss. He walked two and recorded four strikeouts.
Finn Randolph worked the last three innings, permitting one hit and one unearned run. He notched one strikeout.
On Tuesday (May 16), the Bulldogs completed their doubleheader sweep at Mount Zion.
M-S won the first game on Saturday (May 13), but the second game was postponed by the weather conditions.
The game resumed on Tuesday and the Bulldogs expanded their 7-1 lead into a 13-5 triumph.
Mason Orton (6-0), who pitched three innings before the weather delay, recorded eight strikeouts.
Cade Starrick was summoned on Tuesday and worked the final four innings. He fanned four batters and walked one.
Starrick also paced the offense, finishing 3-for-4. Mateo Casillas, Johnson and Selk each contributed two hits.
McHale collected three RBI while Johnson and Starrick each knocked in two runs.
Selk tallied three runs. Johnson, McHale, Starrick and Wolters all scored two runs apiece.
M-S was 11-for-11 on stolen bases attempts. Wolters swiped three bases. Johnson and Selk both ended with two stolen bases.
Casillas, McHale and Selk all belted triples. Starrick knocked a double.
M-S (28-5) returns to action on Thursday (May 18) in its regular-season finale at home against Bloomington, seeking to tie the 2005 school record for wins in a season.
