Noah Daniels Clinches Third Place at Illinois Wrestling Freshman-Sophomore State Tournament

Mahomet-Seymour sophomore Noah Daniels placed third on Sunday (March 10) in the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Freshman-Sophomore state tournament in Springfield.
Daniels, who weighed in at 197.8 pounds, won five of six matches in the 215-pound weight class in the event which started on Saturday (March 9).
He claimed victories in his first three matches (10-3 decision, pin in one minute and 8-0 decision) to reach the semifinals, where he dropped a 5-4 decision.
In wrestlebacks, Daniels was triumphant 6-4 and then 9-4 in the third-place bout.
Daniels was one of four Mahomet-Seymour athletes who competed in the one-class tournament.
Sophomore Noah Frank won two of his first three bouts at 190 pounds, starting with an 8-5 decision. He was then pinned in 4:26, but bounced back with a 12-1 major decision. Frank was ultimately eliminated from the consolation bracket following a 2-1 overtime setback.
Sophomore Philip Daniels won his first match at 215 pounds, with a 5-0 decision, but then was eliminated with back-to-back losses.
In the girls’ freshman-sophomore 115-pound weight class, Lilyan Daniels lost both of her matches.
