Museum of the Grand Prairie Open WWI Exhibit with Lecture
The Museum of the Grand Prairie will kick off the opening on their new exhibit “Turned Loose: Chanute Field and World War I Pilot Training” with Curator Mark Hanson Saturday, November 12.
Hanson will speak about the creation of Chanute Field in 1917 at 2 p.m. in the Museum’s Education Center.
Located in Rantoul, Illinois, Chanute’s first mission was to train desperately needed airplane pilots to serve in the war torn skies of World War I France.
The Museum will also feature four small exhibits over the course of the next year telling the local stories of involvement in “The Great War.”
