MSJSH falls in Sectional Championship game, Cross Country runners-up at County meet

A 10-game Mahomet-Seymour winning streak was ended on Saturday when Normal Chiddix pushed across a fourth-inning run and made it stand up in a 1-0 decision over the Bulldogs in a Class 3A IESA sectional championship baseball game in Normal.
Peyton Cox pitched a seven-inning complete game for M-S. He struck out six and issued no walks.
The M-S offense managed just one hit – a single by Cox – against two Chiddix pitchers and struck out nine times. The Bulldogs’ Collin Ishcomer reached base on a walk.
M-S ends the season with a 14-4 overall record.
Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Girls’ basketball
The seventh-grade team lost successive games to start the week and snap its season-long winning streak.
On Tuesday at Charleston, M-S (5-2) dropped a 21-17 decision. Ellis Dallas scored seven points.
The point total was the lowest of the season for the team.
A day earlier, the M-S seventh-graders suffered a narrow 25-24 loss at home to Normal Kingsley.
Kingsley hit a tie-breaking free throw in the final seconds to secure the win.
Kylie Waldinger and Dallas each scored six points for the Bulldogs.
The eighth-graders needed a late free throw by Claire Seal to force overtime and then went on to defeat Kingsley 33-26 on Monday. Seal finished with 10 points.
Sidney Young knocked down three three-pointers and scored a team-high 16 points for M-S.
On Tuesday, Seal hit nine of the Bulldog’s points in a 26-11 setback at Charleston. The M-S eighth-graders have a 4-3 record.
On Thursday, Waldinger became the third different player in the last three games to lead the seventh-graders in scoring.
She powered her way for 12 points as the Bulldogs dropped visiting Bloomington 37-19.
Dallas chipped in with eight points.
In a see-saw eighth-grade contest, Bloomington edged M-S, 28-25, when the visitors scored in the waning seconds.
Young led M-S with 11 points. Ava Henderson sank two three-point shots.
M-S returns to action on Thursday against Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Girls’ cross-country
With three runners in the top 10 setting the pace, M-S earned the runner-up trophy in Tuesday’s 16-school Champaign County junior high school meet at Tolono.
Host Unity was the winner, compiling a team score of 23. The second-place Bulldogs had a composite score of 61. St. Joseph-Ogden was in third place with a score of 72.
Leading the way for M-S was seventh-place finisher Ava Boyd, who ran the 2-mile course in 12 minutes, 49 seconds.
Other team leaders were Avah Turner (eighth place), Emmaline Culp (10th) and Ava Jansen (17th).
In the girls’ open division race, the M-S leader was Hadley Groetelueschen. Her time was 14:23.
The Bulldogs closed out their home season on Thursday at Lake of the Woods with five runners placing among the top 15 finishers in a non-scored meet that also included Clinton and Monticello.
Leading the way, with a 2-mile time of 14 minutes, 31 seconds was fourth-place finisher Brooke Arnett.
Other M-S leaders were: McKenzie Hissong (fifth place); Emily Anand (eighth place); Cora Tandy (11th place) and Morgan Waisath (12th place).
A meet scheduled for Friday at Dunlap was canceled due to heavy rains.
Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Boys’ cross-country
Auggie Gaudio was the lone Mahomet-Seymour runner in the top 10 in Tuesday’s 16-school Champaign County meet at Tolono.
He placed fourth with a 2-mile time of 11 minutes, 41 seconds.
The Bulldogs finished third in the team chase. Meet champion Unity had a score of 45 points. Runner-up St. Joseph had a score of 61 points. M-S totaled 70 points.
Other top Bulldog finishers were: Lukas Nykaza (14th), Ty Clark (19th) and Sean Dady-Dreher (25th).
Blake Dillman was the first M-S placer in the open division race.
In its final regular-season home meet against Clinton and Monticello, five M-S runners earned spots in the top 20 on Thursday at Lake of the Woods. No team scores were kept.
The top Bulldog finisher was Zach Wilcoski, who was third overall, and completed the 2-mile course in 12 minutes, 33 seconds.
Following him for the Bulldogs were: Owen Manannah (sixth place); Preston Sriver (seventh place); Jaxon Themanson (14th place) and Tucker Loven (16th place).
A Friday meet at Dunlap was canceled due to the heavy rains.
