MSJHS will play in championship game of Bulldog Invitational

Mahomet-Seymour’s seventh-grade girls’ basketball team will play for the championship in its own four-team, round-robin tournament on Thursday (Oct. 5).
The Bulldogs put themselves in position for a title with back-to-back wins to start the week.
M-S topped Tuscola, 29-13, on Monday (Oct. 2) and then decisioned Mount Zion, 26-10, on Tuesday (Oct. 3).
Against Tuscola, M-S led,16-4, at halftime.
Cambria Clark tallied a team-best nine points. Emma Baker’s eight-point game included 6-of-10 accuracy from the free throw line. Kennedy Lee netted six points.
Against Mount Zion, Clark netted 10 points. Lee contributed seven points. Baker hit five points. Olivia Banister and Phoebe Graham each added two points.
The Bulldogs held Mount Zion’s seventh-grade team to three first-half points, all from the free throw line.
The team scored a 36-14 win at Effingham on Thursday (Sept. 28).
Clark helped the Bulldogs jump out to an early lead by notching 10 of her team-high 12 points in the opening quarter.
Lee chipped in with nine points. Baker hit four points and Phoebe Graham made three points.
The M-S seventh-graders are 9-1 overall with a nine-game winning streak and will face Tolono Unity in their final tournament outing.

Mahomet-Seymour’s eighth-grade girls’ basketball team split its first two games in the Bulldog Invitational.
M-S blitzed Tuscola, 38-3, before falling to Mount Zion, 35-16, to snap a six-game winning streak.
Katie Hunter netted a team-high six points against Mount Zion, a program which placed third at the IESA state tournament last year.
Charlotte Sinclair chipped in with five points. Scoring two points apiece were Faith Benedict and Lily Freiman. Penelope Bird added a free throw.
Against Tuscola, the Bulldogs led, 21-0, after one quarter.
Marley Cloward hit a team-high 10 points. chipped in with seven points.
Last week, M-S capped a series of three road game wins in four days (in three different counties) by overpowering Effingham, 34-9.
Bird hit a team-high nine points and was followed by Freiman (eight points) and Kennedy Ashby (seven points).
Audra Martin and Sinclair each added three points.
Effingham finished the game with four made field goals.
The M-S eighth-graders (8-2) return to action on Thursday (Oct. 5) in the final game of the Bulldog Invitational against Tolono Unity.
