MSJHS holds lunch for first responders

By Fred Kroner

The meal wasn’t the highlight of the day for a Student Council-sponsored event on Tuesday (Sept 21) at Mahomet-Seymour Junior High School.

The food served at lunch, provided by Fisher National Bank, to more than 60 first-responders featured ribeye sandwiches and hot dogs.

Junior high school principal Nathan Mills hopes the activities of recent days helps to create awareness.

“I am hopeful that students are able to recognize and thank all first-responders for the jobs that they do on a daily basis,” Mills said.

Last week, for five days, the junior high conducted a change war between the three grade levels. The eighth-graders raised the most money.

In all, a check for $1,500 was presented on Tuesday to Monticello’s Amber Oberheim, the wife of Champaign police officer Chris Oberheim, who was shot and killed while on duty on May 19th.

The money was donated to The Peacemaker Project 703, a foundation started by the Oberheim family to honor the memory of Chris Oberheim.

The Student Council at M-S Junior High has undertaken community-based projects each of the past several years.
