MSJHS girls’ basketball defeats North Ridge

Penelope Bird scored eight points on Thursday (Sept. 14) to lead the Mahomet-Seymour’s eighth-grade girls’ basketball team to a win at home over Danville North Ridge, 32-4.
The Bulldogs led, 22-0, at halftime.
Marley Cloward and Lily Freiman added six points apiece.
On Monday (Sept. 18), the eighth-graders suffered their first loss, 43-32, at Bloomington Evans. M-S trailed by four points at halftime.
Charlotte Sinclair tossed in a team-high 11 points, nine in the final quarter as the Bulldogs made a comeback bid and cut into a deficit that nearly reached 20 points. Bird hit seven points and Audra Martin chipped in with six points.
On Tuesday (Sept. 19), M-S (3-1) returned to its winning ways at home, handling Champaign Jefferson, 40-24, after building a 23-9 halftime cushion.
Kennedy Ashby tossed in a team-high 14 points. Martin tallied eight points. Both Bird and Sinclair contributed six points.

The seventh-grade Bulldogs posted a 41-11 triumph over the Ridge Runners from North Ridge, led by Kennedy Lee’s 10 points.
Emma Baker netted nine points and Phoebe Graham chipped in with eight points.
Against Bloomington Evans, Graham’s eight points were the team’s best. Lee ended with six points and Cambria Clark totaled five points.
M-S zipped into a 14-1 first-quarter lead and went on to earn a 27-11 victory.
On Tuesday (Sept. 19), M-S defeated visiting Champaign Jefferson, 34-22. Lee netted a team-leading 12 points. Clark made 11 points.
The seventh-graders also have a 3-1 season record.
M-S will return to action on Thursday (Sept. 21) at home against Bloomington.
