MSJHS ends cross country regular season at Monticello, Girls’ basketball hosts Bulldog Invite

Mahomet-Seymour switched up its lineup in Saturday’s regular-season ending cross-country meet at Monticello’s Lodge Park.
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams ran eighth-graders only in the varsity race. All seven Bulldogs in both races finished among or near the top 100.
The first three M-S boys’ runners entered the chute within 17 seconds of one another, led by Davin Tietz.
His 2-mile time was 12 minutes and one second.
Other team leaders were Issac Warren (24th in 12:11), Kai Jones (30th in 12:18), Grant Smysor (46th in 12:43), Charlie Hawley (52nd in 12:50), Jaxon Themanson (73rd in 13:13) and Brogan Hennesy (104th in 14:39).
Mount Zion (75 points) was the meet winner followed by St. Joseph (89). M-S was seventh with 168 points.
The Bulldogs were dominant in the open race with 17 squad members positioning themselves among the top 50. Six of the first seven finishers in a field of 220 were from M-S.
Auggie Gaudio was the winner (12:08), followed by runner-up Ty Clark (12:11) and third-place finisher Lukas Nykaza (12:22).
Other teammates in the top 10 were Emmett Kearns (fifth in 12:24), Landyn Hannah (sixth in 12:26) and Ethan Peterka (seventh in 12:26).
M-S’ other top 50 placers were Blake Dillman (12th in 12:40), Sean Dady-Dreher (13th in 12:44), Henry McMurry (18th in 12:53), Parker Wilkins (19th in 12:54), Zach Kilcoski (22nd in 12:56), Preston Sriver (27th in 13:13), Owen Mahannah (31st in 13:19), Preston Wilkins (37th in 13:39), Will Anderson (39th in 13:42), Max Peters (42nd in 13:47) and Gavin Fan (50th in 13:54).
Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Girls’ cross-country
Three M-S runners logged final times within 22 seconds of one another in Saturday’s last regular-season meet, at Monticello’s Lodge Park.
Ava Boyd was the 10th-place runner. She covered the 2-mile course in 12 minutes, 56 seconds.
Teammate Avah Turner was 14th in 13:14 and Reese Gallier was 19th in 13:18.
Four other squad members were in the top 100 in the varsity race, helping the school to a seventh-place finish.
Unity won the meet with 26 points. M-S was seventh with a total score of 174.
Other leading runners were Brooke Arnett (66th in 14:50), Lauren Bednar (69th in 14:59), Meg Turner (84th in 16:02) and Sophia Davis (100th in 17:57).
In an open race with 232 competitors, 18 Bulldogs were bunched among the top 50, including six in the top 12.
Leading the way were Emmaline Culp (second in 13:31), Ava Jansen (fourth in 13:40), Chloe Bundren (fifth in 13:42), Phoebe Truax (sixth in 13:46), Hadley Grotelueschen (11th in 14:05) and Haley Reed (12th in 14:06).
Other top teammates were Ainsley Smith (15th in 14:14), Isabelle Scheele (18th in 14:17), Isabel Lietz (19th in 14:19), McKenzie Hissong (21st in 14:22), Isabelle Difanis (22nd in 14:26), Emma Frazier (36th in 15:06), Cora Tandy (37th in 15:07), Lily Bosworth (38th in 15:08), Emily Anand (42nd in 15:16), Morgan Waisath (43rd in 15:19), Ella Ylagan (44th in 15:19) and Addison Jessup (50th in 15:23).
Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Girls’ basketball
Both the seventh-and eighth-grade teams opened play in their own Bulldog Invitational on Monday with victories over Tuscola.
Grace Binkley (seven points) and Kylie Waldinger (six points) were the top scorers for the seventh-graders (7-2) in a 30-17 triumph.
Sidney Young notched 10 points to spark the eighth-graders (6-3) to a 32-17 win. Claire Seal added seven points.
Last week on Thursday, both teams were victorious over Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
