MSJHS Baseball tops Chiddix

The Mahomet-Seymour Junior High baseball team improved its season record to 2-0 on Tuesday (Aug. 17) with a 2-1 victory at Normal Chiddix.
Pinch-hitter Pierce Douglas broke up Chiddix’s no-hit bid with a fifth-inning hit. Matthew Kirby delivered a hit before Max Young’s sacrifice bunt attempt wound up with him safely at first base.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard when Nolan Franz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and one out. The tie-breaking run scored when Cade Ashby received a four-pitch walk.
Paxton O’Malley and Hannah shared the pitching duties for the victorious Bulldogs.
M-S opened its season on Saturday (Aug. 14) at White Heath, knocking off Monticello 7-4.
O’Malley’s sacrifice fly accounted for the first M-S run of the season. Young pitched four innings and registered four strikeouts.
