MSJHS baseball opens season with win

Logan Schmit had two hits on Thursday (Aug. 11) as the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High baseball team opened its season with a 14-2 triumph at Normal Parkside.

Winning pitcher Paxson O’Malley drove in two runs as did Marco Casillas and Pierce Douglas.

Scoring twice apiece were O’Malley, Tate Kimball and Dyllin Thomas.

O’Malley pitched five innings and picked up the win. He struck out eight batters and walked one.

Aiden Banister pitched the final inning.

M-S scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed.

On Saturday (Aug. 13), M-S dropped a 5-4 decision at home against Mattoon.

Casillas wound up with two hits (both doubles) and O’Malley had two RBI and two stolen bases.

Nicholas Brauer (three innings) and Casillas (four innings) shared the pitching duties. They combined for eight strikeouts and two walks.

On Tuesday (Aug. 16), the Bulldogs bounced back with a 3-1 triumph over visiting Normal Chiddix.

Joseph Roller swatted two hits and scored a run. Also crossing home plate were Slayton Deck and Ethan Kempher. Casillas had one RBI.

O’Malley worked five scoreless innings, yielding two hits while striking out five batters. Bradley Jones pitched two innings of one-hit relief and fanned three batters.

M-S (2-1) returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 18) at home against Champaign Jefferson.
