MSJHS 7th grade basketball season comes to an end

Mahomet-Seymour’s seventh-grade girls’ basketball team ended one win short of advancing to the IESA Class 4A state tournament.
On Wednesday (Nov. 29), the Bulldogs dropped a sectional championship decision to Crete-Monee, 46-31, at Kankakee Junior High.
M-S led, 7-3, after one quarter. The teams were tied, 14-14, at halftime and 26-26 after three quarters.
Cambria Clark led M-S with 19 points. Kennedy Lee hit six points and Emma Baker notched four points. Hitting one free throw apiece were Olivia Banister and Kara Benway.
Clark led the Bulldogs – or shared the lead – in scoring in 14 games. Lee was the leader in eight games. Baker was tops in five games and Phoebe Graham led twice.
Clark was the team-leader in scoring (244, including the postseason). Following her were Lee (199 points), Baker (130 points), Graham (72 points), Banister (61 points), Benway (22 points), Marlee Roberts (14 points), Bailey Tarter (11 points), Nora Robinson (7 points), Kendal Schonauer (7 points), Layla Nagle (5 points), Amelia Blackman (4 points), Kynadi O’Malley (4 points), Clara Ummel (4 points) and Layla Koroyanis (2 points).
Clark’s 19 points against Crete-Monee was the team’s top individual performance for the season. Baker and Lee each had high games of 14 points. Graham’s top game was 11 points.
M-S finished the season with an overall record of 21-6.
The M-S eighth-graders (18-8) will play their sectional championship game against Crete-Monee on Wednesday (Dec. 6) in the M-S gymnasium.
