MSHS Wrestling wins dual match, Swimming and Basketball teams pick up loses

Four Bulldogs won contested matches and four others picked up forfeit wins on Tuesday as M-S won a dual wrestling meet at Clinton, 38-28.
Winners of contested matches were Owen Straub (113 pounds), Braeden Heinold (120 pounds), Peyton Myers (132 pounds) and Chance Decker (138 pounds).
Receiving forfeits for M-S (6-1) were Payton Ragona (106), Daunte Roberts (170), Dallas Carnell (182) and Seth Buchanan (285).
Buchanan (7-0) and Heinold (2-0) are unbeaten for the season.
Suffering his first loss at Clinton was Gage Granadino (152).
M-S will return to action in the two-day Mascoutah Tournament, which starts on Friday.
Swimming
Freshman diver Max Katz was the lone winner for Mahomet-Seymour in a three-school meet on Tuesday at Danville.
Katz was also the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle.
Champaign Central (127) won the meet, followed by the Bulldogs (89) and Danville (59).
Four Bulldogs had top five finishes in two events.
Ryan Whitehouse was second in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 freestyle.
Evan Herriott was the runner-up in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly.
Gavin Groff was third in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Will Larson was third in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 200 individual medley.
Teammates with one top five finish were Ben Jennings (fourth in the 100 backstroke), Levi Frost (fourth in the 500 freestyle) and Zach Orr (fifth in the 100 freestyle).
The Bulldog return to action tonight at Stanford Olympia.
Boys’ basketball
Grant Coleman scored a team-high 15 points for Mahomet-Seymour (4-3), which lost its second consecutive game on Tuesday, 62-50 at Normal University High.
Six different Bulldogs hit three-point shots, including Lucas Turner, who made his first one of the season.
U-High held a 27-20 halftime lead.
M-S returns to action on Saturday with a home game against Dunlap.
Girls’ basketball
Kailyn Northrup and Maddy Wade each scored 10 points for M-S, which dropped a 50-33 decision on Monday at Effingham.
Northrup hit both of her team’s three-pointers.
Keida Nichols cleared a team-high 12 rebounds.
The Bulldogs led, 11-8, after one quarter but trailed at halftime, 18-14 and were still within six points after three quarters.
M-S (3-5) hopes to snap a four-game losing streak tonight, playing host to Rantoul.
