MSHS Track and Soccer find success over weekend

Four Mahomet-Seymour athletes won individual events on Saturday as the Bulldogs captured team honors in the 30-school Eastern Illinois University Indoor Track and Field Invitational, in Charleston.
M-S totaled 61 points. Runner-up Unity had 59 points.
The Bulldogs’ best event was the 1,600 meters. Teammates Mathias Powell (4 minutes, 25.76 seconds) and Ryan Hodge (4:27.21) took first and second, respectively. Powell is a junior and Hodge is a senior.
Senior Brandon Bretz won the 400 meters (52.10), senior Callan Whitehouse won the pole vault (15 feet, 6 inches) and sophomore Hunter Hendershot won the shot put (53-6 1/2).
In addition to Hodge’s runner-up finish, M-S’ 1,600 relay unit captured second in 3:34.40.
Girls’ soccer
The Bulldogs (2-0) posted their second 7-0 shutout win of the season, blanking visiting Bloomington on Thursday.
Erin Lenschow and Nyah Biegler each scored two goals for M-S.
Meredith Johnson-Monfort collected three assists. She scored one goal.
Teammate Maddy Wade had a goal and an assist. Maddie Louis scored the team’s other goal.
Haley Lester had two assists and Biegler had one assist.
Goalkeeper Sarah Hohenstein had two saves.
