MSHS tennis defeats Taylorville

Mahomet-Seymour bounced back from a fifth-place team finish on Saturday (Oct. 1) in the Apollo Conference girls’ tennis tournament to win a dual meet from Taylorville, 8-1, on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at the Illini Grove courts.
The Bulldogs swept all six singles matches against Taylorville in straight sets.
At No. 1, Savannah Amatyleon topped Grayson Good, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 2, Emily Young defeated Mia Morelock, 6-1, 6-3.
At No. 3, Claire Johnson beat Alyssa Andreatta, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 4, Holland Martin swept past Claire Vaira, 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 5, Adella Bird was victorious over Macy Richards, 6-3, 6-1. At No. 6, Ashley Shoaf handled Lillian Voudrie, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles, M-S was triumphant at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
At No. 2, Izzy Fonte and Charlotte Mercer edged Alyssa Andreatta and Claire Vaira, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5).
At No. 3, Lily Roberts and Samantha VanSwol powered past Lydia Hopkins and Macy Richards, 6-1, 6-2.
In the Apollo conference meet, Amatyleon (No. 1) and Young (No. 2) were each 1-1 and finished fifth.
Ainsley Smith (No. 3) was 0-2 and placed sixth.
Martin (No. 4) was 2-1 and was the runner-up. Johnson (No. 5) and Bird (No. 6) were each 1-2 and wound up in fourth place.
Martin won 6-0, 6-1 and 7-5, 6-3 to reach the championship match, where she fell, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, Young and Amatyleon (No. 1) were 1-1 as were Johnson and Martin (No. 2). Both duos placed fifth.
Delaney Shore and Shoaf (No. 3) was 0-2. She finished sixth.
Mattoon was the Apollo Conference champion.
M-S (7-6) returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 6) for its regular-season finale against St. Thomas More at the Illini Grove courts.
