MSHS recognizes Fall Students of the Semester
The following high school students received the Student of the Semester Award for fall 2017.
Freshman Matthew Frerichs
Student’s ambition(s) or dream(s): I want to go to college after high school.
Parents’ comment(s) or quote: He has always been determined with working hard.
Teacher comments: Michael is an outstanding student that exemplifies what we hope to see in students at MSHS. He is a leader amongst his peers, respectful and well spoken and above all, he values his education. Michael continually tries to do his best and push himself to learn more and go above and beyond. His inquisitive nature pushes him to dig further into the language and culture. It is a pure joy to watch him learn and critically think about the material and real-world connections and implications.
Sophomore Amy Jassman
Student’s ambition(s) or dream(s): I would like to attend college out of state, major in kinesiology, minor in Spanish, and one day be an occupational therapist.
Parents’ comment(s) or quote: We are proud of how Amy lives out her faith which enables her to be a good student as well as a good role model. She loves to help people and is a pleasure to be around. We are very proud of Amy and love her very much.
Teacher comments: Amy made the jump into the honors pathway this fall. From day one, she’s made the transition a seamless one. Amy is a renowned question-asker with an authentic desire to understand the why’s and how’s of math. She is also fearless in risking an idea. Because of these remarkable qualities, her classmates love having her by their side.
Junior Jordan Veldman
Student’s ambition(s) or dream(s): My dream is to one day play in the MLB, but more realistically I want to pursue my faith and spread God’s word through my everyday living.
Additional Comments: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not human masters.” ~Colossians 3:23
Parents’ comment(s) or quote: Jordan has been fun to raise. He has always been diligent and consistent. He isn’t often swayed in his beliefs. Joshua 1:9…”Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened or dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” We are so proud of him and the way he has become.
Teacher comments: For three years Jordan has been a shining example of what a student-athlete can be. He’s gifted for sure. But in my opinion, what separates Jordan from others is his desire to maximize those gifts. It’s been a privilege to observe his diligence and conscientious approach both in the classroom and in his extra-curricular.
Senior McKinley Lener
Student’s ambition(s) or dream(s): I plan on attending college in the fall and look forward to deciding on a major and choosing a career I enjoy.
Additional Comment: “Faith does not make things easy it makes them possible.” Luke 1:37
Parents’ comment(s) or quote: We are thrilled that McKinley is being recognized as the student of the semester. She has worked extremely hard this year in the classroom and outside of it. We couldn’t be more proud of the senior year she is experiencing.
Teacher comments: I have had the honor of having McKinley in multiple classes. In every class, she has always displayed a higher degree of character. She truly is a positive role model to her peers in her compassion and kindness. McKinley embodies all aspects of being a great example of how all MSHS students should strive to conduct themselves.
