MSHS Math Teacher Angie Gruner retires after 30 years
She wanted to leave teaching in the same way that she worked: behind the scenes.
After 31 years dedicated to the Mahomet-Seymour School system, 20 as a paid employee and 11 as a classroom volunteer, MSHS Math Instructor Angie Gruner has retired.
In 1985, Gruner student taught in the district.
“ I fell in love with this community which values education as much as I do,” she said.
Shortly after graduation, a math position became available in 1986, and Gruner “gave her heart to teaching, encouraging and cheering on Mahomet-Seymour students.”
“That’s really all there is to my story,” she said. “I loved every moment of being in the classroom. I made every decision based on what was best for my students. I hope they learned the math that I taught them; but, more importantly, I hope they learned about their worth beyond the classroom.”
