MSHS graduation location moved to Krannert
Sitting through a Mahomet-Seymour High School graduation ceremony will be more comfortable for this year’s graduating class.
After years of fielding complaints of sound quality, cramped and uncomfortable seating and scorching heat, the Mahomet-Seymour School Board voted to move the graduation ceremony to the Krannert Center Monday.
Cheek said the move will allow for the ceremony to be air conditioned in a venue with more comfortable seating, but Krannert will also offer options for the school to provide a gathering areas for refreshments and photos.
Although Krannert will be able to host 2,000 spectators, which will allow for families to invite more members to the ceremony, Bulldog TV will still stream the ceremony so additional family members and friends can view graduation.
Cheek, who has received informal feedback for the last nine years surveyed the 2014 freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior classes along with their parents, staff members and PTO to get feedback on the venue location, time of day and date of upcoming ceremonies.
Eighty-five percent of those surveyed wanted the event moved to a different location. Cheek also visited several other venues, including the State Farm Center and the Virginia Theatre before settling on Krannert.
Graduation will be held on May 22 at 7 p.m. at Krannert.
