MSHS Girls’ Soccer wins one, loses two at Urbana Invitational

Girls’ soccer was the only Mahomet-Seymour sport to take the field during the past week.
M-S participated in the eight-school Urbana Invitational, and went 1-2 during the two-day event that ended on Saturday.
In first-round action on Friday, the Bulldogs scored first, but couldn’t hold the lead and dropped a 2-1 decision to Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.
Erin Lenschow scored on an assist by Haley Lester. Sacred Heart Griffin created a 1-1 tie by halftime and scored the lone second-half goal.
Goalkeeper Sarah Hohenstein had five saves.
In a 2-1 loss to Stevens Point (Wis.), on Saturday, the Bulldogs held a 1-0 halftime lead. Lilly Isaac scored after a shot from Meredith Johnson-Monfort caromed off the keeper.
Stevens Point scored the decisive tiebreaking goal in the final four minutes.
Hohenstein accumulated seven saves.
M-S (7-2) salvaged a win in the seventh-place match, shutting out Marshfield (Wis.) 5-0.
Johnson-Monfort scored twice in the opening half, hitting her first goal 2 minutes into the contest.
Lenschow, Lester and Nyah Biegler also scored for M-S.
Assists were garnered by Lester, Mackenzie Moore and Michaela Schoolcraft.
Hohenstein had one save while registering her sixth shutout.
