MSHS girls basketball splits two games at Prairie Central Hawk Classic

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team opened its season earlier this week by splitting games on back-to-back nights at the Prairie Central Hawk Classic.
The Bulldogs rebounded from a 57-50 loss on Monday to Eureka by handing East Peoria a 53-17 loss on Tuesday.
M-S (1-1) led at halftime of both games.
Three squad members scored in double figures in Game 1. Kailyn Northrup and Maddy Wade each tallied 15 points. Keida Nichols added 13 points.
Northrup nailed three three-point shots against the Hornets. M-S, which attempted just four free throws in the opener, led at intermission, 25-23.
Wade pulled down a team-high six rebounds, Grabbing five rebounds apiece were Nichols, Northrup and Makayla Rosenbery. Nichols and Rosenbery also added three assists and three steals.
Against East Peoria (1-1), the Bulldogs built a 36-11 lead at the break.
Northrup hit a team-high 15 points, including the Bulldogs’ lone three-pointer. Nichols followed with a double-double (14 points and 10 rebounds).
Abby Kyle pulled down eight rebounds. Nichols had five steals and Northrup handed out three assists.
M-S returns to action tonight at the Prairie Central tournament, playing Pontiac.
