MSHS girls’ basketball fall in IHSA Regionals, boys’ basketball loses to Normal West

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball season ended on Tuesday with a 51-43 loss to top-seeded Charleston in the semifinals of Clinton’s Class 3A regional tournament.
Charleston had beaten M-S twice during the regular season, each time by 27-point margins.
In the final rematch, the Bulldogs (14-16) led, 9-7, after one quarter and were within a 22-20 count at halftime.
The balanced M-S offensive attack was led by eight points apiece from Abby Kyle, Lakeida Nichols and Maddy Wade.
Kailyn Northrup and Makayla Rosenbery each scored seven points. Nicole Taylor had five points.
Kyle (11 rebounds), Taylor (10 rebounds) and Nichols (nine rebounds) were a dominant force on the boards.
Nichols also had team-high totals of five steals and two assists.
In Monday’s regional opener, Wade and Northrup each made two three-point shots and scored in double figures as M-S upended the host school, 54-31.
Wade totaled 14 points. Northrup tallied 13 points to go with six steals.
Nichols collected 13 rebounds, seven points and three assists.
M-S led, 16-13, after one quarter, but expanded its margin to 34-21 at halftime.
Boys’ basketball
Normal West extended the M-S losing streak to four games on Tuesday with a 58-51 non-conference decision in Normal.
The Bulldogs (9-16) led 16-11 after one quarter, but had fallen behind, 28-27 at halftime.
Grant Coleman’s 18 points led the M-S offense.
Braden Finch and Jordan Veldman each scored 10 points.
Coleman, Finch and Connor Kamphaus each handed out three assists.
Kamphaus cleared a team-high five rebounds.
M-S returns to action on Friday at home against Charleston, an opponent the Bulldogs defeated in the season’s fourth game.
