MSHS Boys’ Basketball wins first game in State Farm Classic, Girls’ Basketball falls to Springfield

MSHS Boys’ Basketball

Cory Noe scored a game-high 23 points on Wednesday night as the boys’ basketball Bulldogs (10-2) extended their winning streak to seven games with a 59-45 decision over South Holland Thornwood in first-round action of the State Farm Classic at Normal West High School.

Noe hit the only two three-pointers that M-S made. The Bulldogs held five-point leads at both halftime and after three quarters, but pulled away thanks to a 20-11 fourth-quarter advantage.

Both teams were 3-for-9 from the free throw line.

Other top scorers for the Bulldogs were Noah Benedict, Holt Campion and Brooks Coetzee, all with eight points.

M-S returns to action on Thursday seeking a win that will advance it into the semifinals for the second consecutive year.

MSHS Girls’ basketball

The Bulldogs (6-5) trailed by eight points entering the fourth quarter, but were outscored 24-3 by Springfield during the final 8 minutes and dropped a first-round 70-41 decision to the Senators in a Wednesday morning State Farm Classic tournament game at Bloomington Central Catholic High School.

Amanda Franklin led M-S with 15 points. Erin Lenschow scored 10 points, Cassidi Collins had seven and Jessica Franklin scored five points.

The Bulldogs hit 12 of 24 free throws. Springfield was accurate on 13 of 16 free throw attempts.

The Bulldogs will play Bloomington on Thursday. The Purple Raiders dropped a 54-48 first-round decision to St. Ignatius.
