Soccer
Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over visiting Mount Zion enabled Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ program to hit a significant trifecta.
— The win clinched the second consecutive unbeaten (10-0) Apollo Conference season for the league champion Bulldogs;
— The win enabled M-S to tie its school record for single-season shutouts (15);
— The win also marked the first time in school history that M-S has produced back-to-back 20-win seasons in girls’ soccer.
The shutout record the 2019 team tied was one established in 2018.
With one more win, the Bulldogs will match the school mark for wins in a season, currently held by last year’s 21-3 squad.
Mackenzie Moore scored the first and last goals for M-S against the Braves. Nyah Biegler also had a goal.
Assists were credited to Maddy Wade and Haley Lester.
Freshman Grace Larson filled in as goalkeeper for the injured Noelle Bailey. Larson had a varsity-high five saves.
On Monday, 12 Bulldogs had either a goal or an assist as M-S posted an Apollo Conference shutout at Taylorville 8-0.
The defense did not allow the Tornadoes a single shot on goal.
Maddie Claybrooke had her first two-goal game of the season, along with one assist.
Biegler had two assists and Wade finished with one goal and one assist.
Other teammates who scored were Maddie Louis (who hit the first goal of the match), Cayla Koerner, Brea Benson, Lilia Isaac and Lauren Schnepper.
Isaac was the 18th different squad member to net a goal this season.
Also assisting were Grace Lietz, Lester, Brooke Benson and Delaney King.

In their 10 league matches, the Bulldogs permitted just three goals.
