Seniors shine in girls’ basketball and wrestling wins

Kailyn Northrup scored a season-high 19 points on Friday as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 49-41 triumph over visiting St. Thomas More.
Northrup hit three of her six baskets from three-point range.
Another teammate who reached a season’s high for points scored was Abby Kyle, with 11 points.
Lakeida Nichols produced a double-double (13 points and 11 rebounds) and was another catalyst in the non-conference victory. Nichols also had five assists.
The trio of Northrup, Nichols and Kyle accounted for 43 of the Bulldogs’ 49 points.
Maddy Wade grabbed six rebounds and Nicole Taylor had five rebounds. Kyle had a team-high three steals.
M-S (9-12) returns to action Monday with a home game against Mattoon.
Wrestling
All four M-S seniors posted at least one win in Thursday’s home dual meets against Champaign Central and Pontiac.
On Senior Night, the Bulldogs (13-6) dispatched Central 51-28, but lost to Pontiac 40-32.
Seniors Cameron Livingston (145 pounds), Tyler Kittivanichkulkrai (160 pounds), Wyatt Heimann (!70 pounds) and Daunte Roberts (182 pounds) were the M-S headliners.
Roberts won twice by pin and ended both matches in less than one minute.
Heimann was also 2-0 for the night, registering a pin and an 11-5 win.
Kittivanichkulkrai won by pin against Central and lost to his Pontiac opponent.
Livingston was also 1-1 for the night, edging his opponent from Central, 4-2.
Besides Roberts and Heimann, other teammates who were 2-0 for the night were Chance Decker (138 pounds), Gage Granadino (152 pounds) and Daniel Renshaw (195 pounds). All three recorded two pins.
Other Bulldogs with a win on Thursday were Noah Schnepper (120 pounds), Brayden Bone (220 pounds) and Seth Buchanan (285 pounds). Buchanan’s win was by pin. Schnepper earned a technical fall win.
M-S returns to action Monday in the 39th annual Marty Williams Invitational at the M-S Fieldhouse.
