MPRD to move office to Lake of the Woods Road
The Mahomet Parks and Recreation Department will move offices from 206 S. Elm Street to the Village of Mahomet Public Works building at 218 South Lake of the Woods Road.
The Village purchased the 8000-square-foot facility for $1.1M two years ago. They have since updated the facility to meet the Public Works Department and additional Village needs, including a fitness room, which the MPRD currently uses for Zumba classes.
The Village was hesitant to move MPRD out to the new facility because of its current convenience to the schools, but Waldinger said with the addition of online registration, MPRD has seen fewer patrons come through the doors over the last few years.
The office on South Lake of the Woods Road will continue to be open to residents who need assistance and who wish to register in-person.
MPRD Director Dan Waldinger said moving to the new facility will not only allow the department to grow according to Village needs, it may also serve as additional space for daytime programming.
Waldinger, and co-workers Jack Ware and Johanna Jewell will each have their own offices, and the move will allow for the Village to hire additional staff, if needed.
The office on Elm Street will continue to be open through the end of November for basketball and Turkey Trot registration. The MPRD staff will open their offices on South Lake of the Woods Road on December 1.
At this time, the Village plans to retain the building on Elm Street. As the Village staff continues to grow, the facility could be used for additional office space.
