MPRD introduces Finding Fight, a self-defense class for women
There’s nothing better than knowing you can take care of yourself mentally, financially, and physically.
For most people, the physical part is just exercise. In today’s world, the importance and relevance has grown. Being able to protect yourself in all situations is a confidence booster as much as it is a reassurance. That reassurance can truly be gained through self-defense classes.
Finding Fight is a 5-week long realistic self-defense and self-protective class for all women.
Participants will learn how to recognize violence before it happens and deal with it if it does. The skills developed in this class are realistic, doable, and will actually work in real-life situations, even under real-life stresses.
Kirk Stevens, a minister at the Champaign Church of Christ, certified instructor for Focus Counter Violence, and a teacher of different martial arts for several years will be partnering with Mahomet Parks and Recreation to provide opportunities locally. There will be both discussion and active, hands-on practice.
“I want to use what I have learned to help people feel confident, empowered, and safe, especially given the state of the world today. After taking these classes, I hope participants leave with a much greater ability to recognize violence before it happens and how to deal with it if it does. I
hope participants have a fun and challenging time too!”
