Mount Zion halts Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball win streak

Mount Zion put a halt to Mahomet-Seymour’s four-game winning streak in girls’ basketball on Monday, posting a 53-40 victory over the Bulldogs in their own gym.
Durbin Thomas scored a team-high 11 points and made a career-high three three-pointers.
Other top point-makers for the Bulldogs were Savannah Orgeron and Nichole Taylor, each with seven points.
Orgeron captured a team-high eight rebounds, her first time leading the team this season. Taylor pulled down five rebounds and ended with a team-high four assists.
M-S led 13-11 after one quarter, but the Braves had built a 23-16 lead by halftime and eventually upped their margin to 13 points.
Thomas and Cayla Korner each collected two steals. Koerner had three assists.
The Bulldogs (12-8 overall) return to action tonight at Effingham in an Apollo Conference game. M-S is 3-5 in league contests.
