A message from Chief Metzler:
As we all adapt to changes locally, at the state level, nationally and internationally, in response to COVID-19, you can be assured the men and women of the Mahomet Police Department will continue to be available and of service. The need to reduce the personal space interactions between people has prompted public health officials to recommend specific changes. Those measures will affect our response to requests for service. They are necessary as we do our part to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus and protect the community, our staff, and our families.METCAD, our dispatch partner, will be asking additional screening questions when you call asking for Police, Fire, or EMS assistance. These questions are necessary to allow first responders to properly prepare and adapt our response. You may be asked questions about travel and if there is anyone in the house (or other location) who is sick, or has cold or flu-like symptoms. Be patient and give the call takers as much information as possible. Please be assured, when you need the police, fire, or EMS we will be coming. There may be times, however, when our response can be met, and your needs addressed, with a phone call. In those circumstances, we will do our best to provide you with the same level of service, minus the face-to-face interaction. If you need a police officer, whether in person, or over the phone, call METCAD. If it is an emergency, dial 911. If your need is not an emergency, call the METCAD non-emergency number, 333-8911. If you need records, you can call our office at 586-5533. You can also reach the department by email at: mpd@police.mahomet-il.gov.We are a strong community and nation. We will get through this by working together and with prayer. So take a moment and say an extra prayer for our families and friends, discernment in our leaders, and protection for our health care workers, our military, and our first responders. And remember, if you need us, we will be there.Mike MetzlerChief of PoliceVillage of Mahomet
