Middletown Prairie receives finishing touches
Preschool and kindergarten teachers became acquainted with their new spaces at Middletown Prairie Elementary School as Superintendent Rick Johnston took them on a tour of the building early last week.
Teachers may be able to begin personalizing their classrooms as early as next week after crews spend the rest of this week putting the finishing touches on the indoor spaces.
“There are some things we need to wrap up before we let the teachers in to work because we don’t want (the teachers and construction crews) falling over each other,” said Superintendent Rick Johnston.
In May, teachers packed their classroom belongings into uniform boxes, which were purchased by the Mahomet-Seymour School District. The District moved the boxes and furniture over to Middle Prairie the week of June 7.
“They did a good job of purging, which they needed to do. Elementary teachers seem to be pack rats,” Johnston said jokingly.
Once crews finish painting, putting up tackboards and get hallway benches set up, teachers will be able to prepare for the first day of school on August 20.
Middletown Prairie will be open to the public on August 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.
