McMurry and Carey earn All-Conference honors

Sophomore Henry McMurry and senior Lukas Carey earned all-conference honors for the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ cross-country team based on their top-10 performances in the Tuesday (Oct. 10) league meet at Taylorville.
McMurry was clocked in 16 minutes, 30.9 seconds for the 3-mile race held at the Christian County Fairgrounds. He placed ninth and is a two-time All-Apollo Conference runner.
Carey captured the final all-Apollo slot by finishing 10th in 16:43.6.
M-S ran third in a meet which featured six full teams.
Mount Zion claimed team honors with 31 points. Runner-up Taylorville had 48 points, and third-place M-S had 66 points.
The Bulldogs had won five of the last six Apollo Conference boys’ cross-country meets, including a string of four in a row.
McMurry and Carey were followed to the finish line by three junior teammates: Lukas Nykaza (11th in 16:45.8), Kaleb Kasper (15th in 17:01.0) and Zach Wilcoski (21st in 17:18.1).
Nine other athletes also participated in the 67-runner Apollo Conference race.
Corban McMinn was 26th in 17:41.0, Grant Smysor was 28th in 17:56.5, Jack VanHoorn was 35th in 18:27.8, Gavin Fan was 36th in 18:35.4, Henry Carpenter was 44th in 18:51.6, Ben Schultz was 48th in 19:15.2, Blake Patrick was 54th in 19:45.4, Jackson Koontz was 56th in 20:29.5 and Matthew Gray was 63rd in 22:56.9.
M-S returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 21) in the Normal U-High Class 2A Regional at Maxwell Park.
