MAYC Seeks Support to Move Location

The Mahomet Area Youth Club is asking the Mahomet community for financial support as the club moves from 601 E Franklin St to 700 W Main Street, formerly New Hope Fellowship Church, this spring.

MAYC closed on the sale of the new property Tuesday morning.

While much of the construction and renovation costs will be covered by the sale of the existing MAYC property, the club is still in need of $50,000 through the Move MAYC campaign to help with some structural updates, ADA compliance, fencing and other required updates to get ready for programming.

Executive Director Chad Hoffman said the new space will house a bigger playground area, a basketball court, open space for children and spaces for split programming for different age groups. It will also include a pool table, a ping pong table and rooms dubbed as a Creativity Corner where Legos will be located, an Imagination Lab with board games and Wii games, and the Learning Library which will be a place for quiet time, reading books and puzzles.

“Those are the things we’re really working within the community to give sponsorships to make those rooms fully what we want them to be to work with kids in different age groups,” Hoffman said.

Pulling the club from a developing commercial area to a residential area will also increase safety for children at MAYC.

Hoffman also said the A.T.L.A.S. program will continue to partner with MAYC, using the facility during the school year for the Mahomet-Seymour School District’s life skills programming.

Suggested sponsorships run from $500 to $5000 through May 31, but Hoffman said any donation amount helps. This one-time campaign will raise money specifically for the new building while MAYC’s annual Barn Dance and Auction will raise money for recurring operating expenses.
