We may not be able to see into the future, but the Village of Mahomet would like to offer an opportunity to imagine the future of Mahomet’s downtown.
From 6 to 8 p.m. on January 22, Smithgroup, the design firm the Village of Mahomet contracted with to make a master plan for the revitalization of Mahomet’s Main Street, will host an event at the Cornbelt Fire Department for residents to interact with posters and virtual models of the plan.
During the design process, the Smithgroup focused on five themes throughout the process: entertainment and gathering spaces, placemaking and streetscapes, mobility and transportation, mixed-use redevelopment and commercial uses.
By shaping downtown streets, sidewalks and gathering spaces to guide private the Village hopes to drive private investment in the area.
Smithgroup design team member will be available to walk visitors through a presentation, answer questions or explain ideas. The firm would like to collect real-time feedback through text messaging during the event.
After the presentation, guests will have the opportunity to experience the re-imagined downtown through virtual reality.
With incoming feedback, Smithgroup has said that they will revise the Masterplan to reflect the priorities important to community members.
