A U.S. Marine Corps veteran protesting the expanding war in Iran had his arm broken during a chaotic confrontation inside a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing last week.

Brian McGinnis, a Marine veteran and Green Party Senate hopeful, disrupted a Senate Armed Services session at the U.S. Capitol by shouting that “no one wants to fight for Israel” as lawmakers discussed U.S. policy and joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran. Video from the hearing shows McGinnis, dressed in his Marine uniform, being surrounded by Capitol Police officers as they attempted to remove him from the room.

Republican Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana, a former Navy SEAL, stepped in to assist Capitol Police as they grappled with McGinnis. Video appears to show Sheehy grabbing McGinnis’s upper body and arm as officers try to pull the veteran away from the doorway.

Capitol Police say McGinnis wrapped his arm around a doorframe in an apparent attempt to resist removal. In the ensuing struggle, an audible snapping sound is heard on recordings, followed by shouts from observers that a senator “broke his hand.”

Capitol Police later confirmed that McGinnis received medical treatment for an arm injury consistent with a break but declined to provide further medical details. In a statement, the department said McGinnis “got his own arm stuck in a door to resist our officers and force his way back into the hearing room,” placing responsibility for the injury on the veteran’s actions.

McGinnis was arrested after the incident and faces multiple counts, including assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and unlawful demonstration inside the Capitol complex. Officers involved reportedly sustained minor injuries, according to Capitol Police.
