Main Lake at Lake of the Woods closed to fishing until further notice
The main lake at Lake of the Woods will be closed for fishing until further notice.
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District asked the Champaign County Forest Preserve to close the lake Thursday night over concerns that anglers, fishing for trout, would overwhelm the property when trout season begins on April 4.
The main lake at Lake of the Woods is the only lake stocked with trout. Other CCFPD lakes, including Homer Lake, the lakes at Riverbend and at Middlefork Forest Preserves will continue to be open for fisherman.
Fishing licenses should be purchased by using a credit card through DNR Direct online via the IDNR website at https://www2.illinois.gov/dnr/LPR/Pages/default.aspx, or by calling DNR Direct toll-free at 1-888-6PERMIT (1-888-673-7648).
All fishermen and women are expected to practice social distancing and use hand sanitizer.
