Mahomet-Seymour’s Adam Smigielski and Jayvon Tompkins Lead Multiple State Qualifiers at IESA Sectional Meet

Adam Smigielski qualified for state for Mahomet-Seymour in two events on Saturday (May 11) in the IESA 16-school, eighth-grade boys’ Class 4A sectional track and field meet at Kankakee.
Smigielski won the 800 meters (personal-best 2:13.34) and was the runner-up in the 1,600 meters (personal-best 4:58.08).
Jayvon Tompkins and Noah Snyder each qualified for state in one field event.
Tompkins won the shot put (42 feet, 4 inches) to clinch his advancement.
He also took fourth in the discus (115 feet, 7 inches),but did not qualify for state in that event.
Snyder finished second in the high jump (5 feet, 5 inches) and is awaiting the start of the state competition on Friday (May 17).
One M-S relay will also compete at state. The 400-meter unit of Kiptyn Fan, Dylan Heckman, Jude McWilliams and Snyder were timed in 48.10 seconds and qualified for state.
M-S pole vaulter Jude McWilliams tied for third place (7 feet, 7 inches). He also took seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (17.18 seconds).
Liam Burwell produced top-10 finishes in two individual running races.
Burwell placed fourth in the 1,600 meters (5:13.99) and added a fifth in the 200 meters (2:10.74). Kiptyn Fan was sixth in the 200 meters (personal-best 25.06 seconds).
Two other Bulldog relays crossed the finish line between sixth and eighth place.
The 1,600-meter grouping of Fan, Jonathan Pitts, McWilliams and Snyder was timed in 3:55.83.
The M-S 800-meter relay ended in eighth place. The relay runners were Leo Agate, Tayten Gergen, Luca Vanderstraeten and Henry Welch. Their combined time was 1:51.33.
The M-S eighth-graders earned the sectional championship trophy after amassing 68 ½ points. Runner-up Champaign Jefferson came in at 64 points.

Hurdler Auggie Zimmerman and pole vaulter Grant Morphew earned berths at the boys’ IESA seventh-grade state track and field meet by virtue of their performances on Saturday (May 11) in the 16-school Kankakee Sectional.
Zimmerman was triumphant in the 110-meter hurdles (personal-best 17.69 seconds) and Morphew cleared 8 feet, 2 inches to win the pole vault.
They will be the lone M-S seventh-grade representatives at state, which will start on Friday (May 17) at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.
Seven other Bulldogs registered top-10 finishes in an individual event: Abdel Abdo (fourth in the 800 meters in 2:24.99 and fourth in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 5:19.65), Braeden Eades (fourth in the shot put at 32 feet, 4 inches), Jonathan Pitts (fourth in the long jump at 15 feet), Morphew (eighth in the 800 meters in 2:30.14), Corbin Moser (ninth in the 800 meters in 2:04.91) and Owen Henry (tied for 10th in the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches).
Both the M-S 800- and 1,600-meter relays ended in ninth place.
The 800 unit consisted of Corbin Moser, Brayden Derickson, Jake Mills and Connor Newman. Their cumulative time was 2:04.91.
The featured runners on the 1,600-meter relay were Ethan Roland, Hudson Pike, Connor Newman and Will Bednar. Their final time was 4:35.26.
The team crown was taken home by Bourbonnais (70 points). M-S finished seventh with 41 points.
