Mahomet-Seymour Wrestling tops Champaign Central and Pontiac

The state-ranked Bulldogs – 22nd in Class 2A according to The Illinois Best Weekly – topped two opponents in dual meets Thursday night at Champaign Central.
M-S (19-1) handled Pontiac 64-12 and Champaign Central 72-11.
All 14 varsity grapplers who competed for M-S won at least one match and 10 posted at least one pin.
The lone Bulldog with two pins was 138-pound Logan Petro, who also had the school’s fastest fall of the day, 28 seconds.
Teammates who collected pins in less than a minute were Payton Ragona (113 pounds) in 29 seconds; Daniel Renshaw (220 pounds) in 42 seconds and Peyton Myers (170 pounds) in 57 seconds.
Other Bulldogs with a pin were Noah Schnepper (126 pounds), Braeden Heinold (132 pounds), Chance Decker (145 pounds), Hayden Nelson (152 pounds), Colton Crowley (182 pounds) and Mateo Casillas (195 pounds).
Seth Buchanan (285 pounds) won twice by forfeit and improved to 30-5 for the season.
Also earning wins were Caden Hatton (106 pounds), Adam Pillischafske (120 pounds) and Brennan Houser (160 pounds).
Buchanan is one of eight squad members with at least 20 wins for the season. Joining him are Gage Granadino (29-8 at 152 pounds), Casillas (28-9), Decker (27-11), Renshaw (26-10), Petro (25-8), Crowley (24-12) and Heinold (20-4).
Casillas has a team-high 48 takedowns followed closely by Schnepper (47) and Granadino (42).
Buchanan (23) and Decker (20) are the team leaders in pins. Casillas has 19 pins and Petro has 18. Among squad members with at least 10 matches, only Decker and Heinold have not been pinned at least once.
M-S is 19-1 in dual meets entering the regular-season home finale on Tuesday against Apollo Conference opponents Taylorville and Charleston. It will not be the team’s final appearance at home, however. M-S will serve as a Class 2A regional host on Feb. 8.
