Mahomet-Seymour wrestling finishes third at Joe Bee’s Girls’ Invitational

Four days after winning the school’s first-ever dual meet in girls’ wrestling, Mahomet-Seymour’s program brought home its first hardware on Saturday (Dec 16) from the Joe Bee Girls’ Invitational, in Springfield.

With five Bulldogs placing among the top five, the Bulldogs secured the third-place trophy.

Team honors in the 22-team event were won by Belleville West (84 points), followed by Paris (83 points) and M-S (79 points).

Freshman Jaycee Fancher won her weight class, pinning both of her opponents at 125 pounds. Her fastest fall was in 1 minute and 56 seconds.

Isabelle Leyhe was second at 120 pounds, going 3-1 for the day with three pins.  Her quickest fall was in 2:21.

Grace Ribbe placed third at 190 pounds. She had a 1-1 record for the day.

Gabriela Dawson ended fourth at 135 pounds, going 2-2 with two pins, including the team’s fastest fall of the day in 45 seconds.

Kalista Granadino took fifth at 115 pounds. She was 3-1 with three pins, including one in 3:00.

Lilyan Daniels also participated and competed in the 120-pound class.

Overall, Bulldog wrestlers had a cumulative record of 11-7 for the day with 10 pins.

Leyhe has an 11-2 season record and Granadino is 11-3. Fancher is 9-4 and Dawson is 9-5.
