Mahomet-Seymour wrestling defeats Clinton

Thanks to a strong finish on Tuesday (Dec. 12), the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ wrestling team topped Clinton, 47-28, in a dual meet at Clinton.
M-S held a precarious 30-28 lead with three matches remaining, but DeAndre Hughey, Gage Decker and Cale Hillard closed out the victory.
Hughey recorded a pin at 150 pounds in 3 minutes and 40 seconds. Decker’s 20-2 technical fall triumph at 157 officially clinched the team win for the Bulldogs. Hillard, at 165 pounds, supplied the finishing touches with the team’s fastest fall in 37 seconds.
Other winners by pin for M-S were Brock VanDeveer (at 190 pounds in 1:40), Gideon Hayter (at 113 pounds in 1:38), Colton McClure (at 120 pounds in 1:06) and Adam Dobrucki (at 132 pounds in 1:39).
The Bulldogs’ other points came at 126 pounds, where Liam Noonan received a win by forfeit.
In the junior varsity match between the schools, M-S came away with a 24-9 win.
The Bulldog pinners were Grant Munds (at 138 pounds in 1:39), Camden Snodsmith (at 157 pounds in 22 seconds), Hughey Allen (at 165 pounds in 4 minutes) and Noah Frank (at 190 pounds in 1:02).
The M-S varsity (7-4) returns to action on Friday (Dec. 15) at the Mascoutah Tournament. The JV squad will compete at two locations. The first string will participate at the Springfield Varsity Tournament with another group heading to a JV invitational at Jacksonville.
