Mahomet-Seymour wins regional semifinal game

Sophomore Luke Dyer came off the bench to score 13 of his team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter as Mahomet-Seymour bounced back from a five-point final-period deficit on Wednesday (Feb. 22) and handed Champaign Central a 53-49 loss in an IHSA Class 3A boys’ basketball regional semifinal game at Central’s Combes Gym.
Dyer nailed three three-point shots and was 2-for-2 from the free throw line down the stretch. Dyer entered the game having scored 14 points in varsity contests this season.
As a team, M-S netted 13 of 15 free throw attempts against the Maroons.
Jake Waldinger was 5-for-5 from the line and connected for two three-point shots on the way to a 13-point performance.
Wyatt Bohm hit seven of his nine points in the fourth period, helping the Bulldogs recover from a 36-31 deficit.
Carter Selk tallied six points. Dayten Eisenmann and Trey Peters each added four points. Adam Dyer netted two points.
M-S held one-point leads after each of the first two quarters, 10-9 and 21-20.
The fourth-seeded Bulldogs (13-16) return to action in the regional title game at 7 p.m. at Central on Friday (Feb. 24) against top-seeded Lincoln, an opponent which is 3-0 this season against M-S. The most recent meeting came seven days ago.
Central was the No. 7 seed.
