Mahomet-Seymour wins Mattoon Holiday Tournament

Tournament Most Valuable Player Savannah Orgeron led Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team to a come-from-behind win on Thursday (Dec. 29) in the championship game of the Mattoon Holiday Tournament.
The Bulldogs handed Galesburg a 51-41 setback. M-S trailed 15-9 after one quarter and 21-18 at halftime.
Orgeron netted a team-high 22 points. She collected 11 of her points in the third quarter and helped seal the win by knocking down 6-of-6 fourth-quarter free throws.
As a team, M-S canned 7-of-8 fourth-quarter free throws.
Chloe Pruitt was a catalyst in the 24-point third-quarter outburst with six points.
Bulldogs Kylie Waldinger and Durbin Thomas were other M-S selections on the all-tournament team. Waldinger recorded eight points against Galesburg. Thomas netted six points to go with four rebounds and three steals.
Abby Bunting contributed seven points, four rebounds and two steals. Orgeron hauled down four rebounds and Pruitt pulled down three rebounds.
After winning all five games in the Mattoon Tournament, the Bulldog have a 15-3 season record and will return to action on Thursday (Jan. 5) at home against Normal West.
