Mahomet-Seymour volleyball wins Bulldog Invitational

Mahomet-Seymour’s volleyball team closed the regular season on Saturday (Oct. 21) by winning the 16-school Quincy Invitational.
The Bulldogs were paced by all-tournament selections Avery Allen and Ellie Barker.
In four matches, Allen pounded 54 kills to go with 29 digs and nine service aces. Barker amassed 29 digs, 22 kills and nine service aces.
Twelve players were named to the all-tournament team.
Bulldog teammate Ellie Dallas totaled 57 assists and 18 digs.
In pool play, M-S whipped Decatur MacArthur (25-10, 25-6) and Washington (25-17 25-27,15-6) in addition to winning over Peoria Richwoods by forfeit.
In the semifinals, the Bulldogs handled Morris (25-14, 25-19) before needing a come-from-behind effort to prevail in the finals over Chatham Glenwood (21-25, 25-19, 15-9).
M-S (31-4) returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 24) in the semifinals of the Normal U-High Class 2A Regional against Rantoul.
Under coach Stan Bergman, M-S has put together three consecutive 30-win seasons as well as four in the past five years. The lone non-30-win season since 2019 was during the COVID season (2020-21 school year) when an abbreviated schedule limited the school to 16 matches.
